Overview
Spain's Ministry of Foreign Affairs (exteriores.gob.es) publishes visa requirements and forms for each consular jurisdiction, but almost everywhere, Spain has contracted BLS International — rather than VFS Global, which most other Schengen states use — to handle appointment booking and document collection. You still fill out the harmonized Schengen form and gather your own documents; BLS's role is administrative, not decisional. Applications must be submitted in person by appointment, and Spain requires legal residency in the country where you apply.

Step-by-step application process
1. Confirm Spain is your main destination
Apply at the BLS centre for the Spanish consulate covering your place of legal residence.
2. Book your appointment through BLS
Appointments are booked directly via the BLS website for your country — never through a third party claiming priority access.
3. Gather your documents
Assemble everything from the checklist, downloading the correct application form from the BLS or consulate site.
4. Attend in person
Submit documents and biometrics at the BLS centre.
5. Pay the fee
Paid at BLS, alongside their service charge for handling logistics.
6. Track your application
Standard Schengen processing is around 15 calendar days.
